DIY Piggy Bank

I came across this cute craft and is a great project and a way to recycle those 2 litre pop bottles. Easy to make with the children and they will love it.

I thought it was so cute I had to share it.

By: Liz Elliott
Kids will love saving money in an animal-themed bank they made themselves. When they are ready to spend, just pop off the cap!

Tip: Before you begin, clean your empty bottle. Fill it up three-quarters with water and add a few drops of dish soap. Cap the bottle and shake vigorously. Remove the cap and rinse with water. Store upside down until dry.

Piggy Bank

Materials

Empty 2-litre plastic bottle
bath tissue tubesPink acrylic paint
2 googly eyes
Pink pipe cleaner
Craft glue
Craft knife
Scissors
Black marker
Pink button (optional)

Instructions
  1. Paint the outsides of each bath tissue tube pink. Paint one tube pink on the inside. Set aside to dry
  2. Paint the outside of the 2-liter bottle and the cap pink, then set aside to dry*
  3. Cut out two pig ears from the tube with the inside painted, and then cut three flaps along each base
  4. Cut the remaining tubes into four 3 1/2-centimetre (1 1/2-inch) sections, which will serve as the pig’s legs
  5. Using craft glue, attach the legs, ears and eyes to the body. You may need to trim the legs to fit the contour of the bottle correctly. Allow the glue to dry
  6. Using the craft knife, cut a coin slot in the top of the pig’s back
  7. Cut a small hole in the base of the bottle for the pig’s tail. Coil the pipe cleaner around a pencil or finger, then feed one end through the hole
  8. Trim the legs (bath tissue tubes) as needed to help the pig stand flat
  9. Put the cap back on the bottle and draw two piggy nostrils on the end, or glue on a pink button
*Tip: When painting the 2-litre bottle, paint one half and set aside to dry. After it dries, paint the other half. This way, you never need to set a wet side down.

Piggy Bank VariationsTurn your piggy bank into a variety of other animals by customizing the instructions for the piggy bank to fit.
  • Make a dog by painting the materials brown and opting for droopy ears.
Tip: Have some fun making a dog “collar” from something that’s already in the house, such as a bandana, an oversized rubber band or even a collar that your real-life dog has outgrown.
  • Craft a cat by painting materials black and white, making the ears pointy and using the pipe cleaners as whiskers.
  • Make a penguin by using the bottom half of two 2-liters — held together by tape or glue — wrapping in black and white craft paper with a yellow beak. Turn the penguin into an owl by swapping out brown paper and paint.
  • Turn a 2-liter into a lion by painting the materials yellow and adding a mane of brown and yellow paper strips.
Tip: Let the kids choose their piggy bank pet’s colour. There’s no reason why a cat can’t be blue or a pig can’t be green. Let their imaginations run wild!

Oh My "GOSH" !

Collection #3 is the kit I received to review. The kit came with the cosmetic bag,
004 Natural Mineral Powder,002 Defining Brow Gel, Gosh Double Precision Mascara, Gosh Lip Lacquer 006 Funky Lips.
I was recently given the opportunity to review Gosh cosmetics through Chick Advisor and the opinions expressed are those of my own and not those of the sponsor. or its affiliates.

Here are pictures of me with the one side of my face done up in Gosh Cosmetics and the other with none to show you the effect and see how it gave me a more polished look with it.

First I would like to say that I am pleased with the overall effect of the appearance of my skin.  Oh My Gosh I was impressed!!

The mineral powder was light and covered well, the mascara was nice and smooth, I loved the brow gel as it was a soft and subtle look.  My daughter teases me all the time and tells me my eyebrows look like hockey sticks, ha ha.  I found the gel to be easy to apply and it stayed on my brows and there was no smearing or smudging.  The Lip Lacquer was smooth and made your lips feel moist but was greasy like some lip glosses.  The only thing I did not like with the lip lacquer is it was a bit smudgy for me and the colour was not good for me.  The make up bag was great quality and liked that the top was mesh and you can see through it.
The only thing that I could have used was bag cover up as I have bags under my eyes.

But overall I was very happy with the overall look and quality of the products.

Thanks GOSH for making me Beautiful!!!

Say No to Cancer !

Cancer has affected so many people and you are hearing more cases of it often.  I had cancer and went through treatments and I am cancer free now.  When I was first diagnosed the the C word my heart dropped, I was in shock, stressed  and I felt very alone.  I had a good support system, great doctors  and many prayers were prayed for me.  I believe that battles you go through in your life make you a stronger person.  My heart goes out to anyone that has been diagnosed with it.  If you are battling it remember to stay positive, have a good support system, remember you will get through this and you are not alone!
Some friends I know are putting on a Fundraiser for Wellspring Niagara cancer support and from what I went through I believe in the cause so I wanted to be a part of it. I believe if we stand together in the fight we can all make a difference.

Garnier Color Shield Products Review

I received these products complimentary for testing purposes from  Influenster .

My package arrived in the mail and it came with the Garnier Color Shield Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave in Shine and Care.

I love coloring my hair red but find it fades quickly. Also your hair gets very damaged from coloring it and can get  dull and dry.
Garnier #ColorShield  products lock in color and help to resist fading.  This was a big plus for me! Also more shine and healthier looking hair

The scent of these products were amazing as I love Acai berry, the products enhanced my color and left my hair shiny and clean.  I have very thin hair but yet it always gets tangles in the neck area and I found using these products my hair was tangle free which was really nice.  I didn't wash my hair the next day to see how the products stood up and I was pleasantly amazed that my hair still looked fresh and shiny without any tangles.  My hair had no frizz as I use a blow dryer on my hair.
 .

Here is a picture of my hair after using the products

These products locked in the color and I could see how it enhanced my hair color!

Garnier Colour Shield gets a rating of 5 Stars for

Performance, Shine, Strength, Resilience, Scent

If you haven't tried the Garnier Color Shield products yet I would encourage you to give them a try! I know you won't be disappointed.

The Good Food Box

ABOUT US

The Good Food Box is a volunteer non-profit, produce buying cooperative to help everyone to include more fresh fruits and vegetables in their meals.
The low cost of the Good Food Box is made possible because of group buying. By pooling their money, Good Food Box participants can buy food wholesale and get better prices. Volunteer labour for sorting and packing keeps the prices down. The selection of produce in the box changes according to the season, quality, and affordability at the time. The Good Food Box buys direct from farmers when possible.
What We Do
The Good Food Box deliver boxes, the size of blue recycling boxes, of fresh fruit and vegetables to Host Sites each month.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

During the first three business days of the month you order and pay for your box at the Host Site closest or most convenient to you also you can purchase it online and pay with a credit card or paypal. The boxes are packed and distributed on the third Wednesday and Thursday of each month to the Host Sites. If distribution day is on a holiday, the next day will be scheduled for distribution. The Host Site will then contact you to let you know that your box is ready. Please bring a bag or container to carry your food home in. Payments can be made by cash or cheque at your selected Host Site.

OUR PRICES

Large - $20 This is ideal for a family of 3 or 4
Small - $15 Ideal for 1 or 2 people

I started ordering the good food box and I love it. I always order the Large because for an extra $5 you get much more so it is the best deal in my opinion. I started ordering this last month and it really helps with cutting the cost on a low income.  It just makes sense to me to purchase one as I love my fruit and vegetables.  Here is a picture I took to show you what you can get in it.Saving money is great but you are also supporting your local farmers as well.

FREE FISHING

Family Fishing Week is coming up July 5 - 13 2014

During this time you do not need a license to fish so this is the time to take advantage of free fishing.
If you are camping during this time at Ontario parks many of the parks offer equipment to loan through the Tackle share program and learn to fish programs.  This is offered at some of the parks.

Here is the list below

EmilyDarlingtonSix Mile LakeGrundy Lake, and Earl Rowe offer OFAH/OPG Tackleshare, Learn to Fish programs, and PARKsmart – lifejacket lending services. At these parks all the gear and instruction you need for a safe and fun filled day of fishing is available.

OFAH/OPG – Tackleshare:

The OFAH/OPG Tackleshare program is offered in more than 55 parks, giving beginners an opportunity to borrow a rod and tackle. Equipment is loaned at no charge.

Other helpful fishing tips:

It is the angler’s responsibility to know what species are in season and fish possession limits. Consult the Ontario Fishing regulations before planning your fishing trip. Kids 17 and under and adults 65 and over do not require a fishing license, but all other anglers must ensure they possess a valid Ontario fishing license. Many lakes in, or partially within provincial parks have restrictions on the use of live bait – consult the Ontario Fishing regulations and be aware of these restrictions - they prevent the movement of harmful invasive species into our lakes and rivers.
Know your local weather forecast, and be prepared for the conditions. Temperatures on or around water are often cooler, and the flat open area of a water body is more susceptible to strong winds. Consider your options for accessing the water; fishing opportunities maybe available from shore, docks, canoe, kayaks, or powerboats. When targeting a species of fish, consider things like water depths, water currents water temperature, light conditions, bait, and structure under the water. These are all important variables impacting when and where you will find different species of fish.

Take the Bite Out of Summer!

Everyone knows Mosquitoes love to bite!  And they love some people more than others. When I get a bite from them my skin gets a big lump on it almost like I have an allergic reaction to them. I'm sure you know what I experience during this season.  It almost makes you want to hide inside but I love the outdoors and have found ways to deal with these pesky insects.
If you are having company over and you want to make s concoction to spray around the area where you will be sitting try making this as it works great.
I know there are lots of products you can buy to use but I prefer using a healthier mix for a  natural repellent. I just love finding new DIY remedies to try and see how they work.

Mosquito Repellent Spray

Use a spray bottle and fill it 3/4 water and 1/4 vinegar and cut up a few garlic clovers
shake it up and spray around the deck or wherever you will be sitting.

You can also use this spray on your clothes if you desire.

If you are having a bonfire, or a camp fire you can add some spice to your fire that will detour the mosquitoes away. I just learned this recently and it is a great tip.  There are 2 Spices that you can use and you probably carry in your household.
Thyme

Rosemary

If you have one of these spices you can just throw some of the leaves on the fire while it is burning and repel the mosquitoes. Also if you are barbecuing you can throw a few spices on there as well.

So remember summer is meant to be enjoyed so don't let those annoying mosquitoes keep you from having fun and enjoying the summer weather.

When enjoying the summer be bite free and don't forget the sunscreen as well!
